Guess Who Came to Dinner

The Crummetts! Ron and Marji came to Las Vegas for a family reunion and they were able to spend some time with us. We had a nice morning at church, and a nice afternoon of lunch and catching up. Their 10 month old Benjamin is adorable. It was so fun to reminisce about old times at Southridge.

On Dreams

Those of you who know me well know that I often have crazy dreams. When I had roommates I would love to share them with them every morning. So if you guys don't mind getting into my head, I think I want to start sharing my dreams on here.

Last night was kinda boring. We were in St. Louis with my brother and sister in law and their baby (6 months old). while sitting around the kitchen table it was decided that my nephew needed to receive his name and blessing. So it was determined that my dad would go first, and then my bro would bless him. This is what happened but instead of it being a special experience, we were all talking over them and eating dinner at the same time. And I don't even think my dad finished the blessing.

Possible interpretations: I really miss my family and would love to go see them. My friends are blessing their baby this Sunday night (6:30 pm) which is dinner time. But everyone was wearing gray shirts in my dream so if anyone has any thoughts on that...

okay I realize that this is probably a dumb post, but I was pretty desperate to post something in my boring life

oh yeah, and at some point in the night I reached over and stabbed ryan in the face with my fingernails. this was unusual because ryan is not usually next to me. This is probably a good thing because it looks like I would beat him up every night while acting out my dreams.

On Being Healthy

Ry: "I think I'm almost at the point where I want to be healthy, so I went to Wal-Mart last night and bought some Gatorade."
Amy: Big laugh with mouth hanging open.
Ry: "What?! It's better than soda."

Yes, Gatorade prob. is better than soda, but that certainly is not what I thought my husband was going to say when he talked about being "healthy." But I'm happy for any step in that direction.

Adventures at 1 am

Most of you will probably not at all feel sorry for me after this story because you get up 2-1,000 times every night. But I don't very often have to give up my sleep, so when Ryan came into the bedroom at 1 am and shed the perfect sliver of light right over my face, I was not too happy. It quickly became apparent that he was looking for something. I couldn't resist. I woke up enough to ask, "what do you need?" "The camera" was his reply. I told him it was in the briefcase and promptly turned over to go back to sleep. "I looked in the briefcase and it's not there" he said. "Well then I don't know where it is!" I snapped. I quickly determined that this was not my problem and that it shouldn't be my responsibility to keep track of everything in the house and that he needed to deal with it. But after hearing him search for another 5 minutes, I decided I needed to be the bigger person-again.
So we looked and looked and looked. I looked everywhere I might possibly have stuck the camera. I looked everywhere Ryan had looked before. I asked him again, "Are you sure you looked in the briefcase?" "YES!"came the reply. I sent Ry out to look in the car AGAIN and determined that we were probably at the "pray for a miracle" stage. I was standing in the office feeling like a horrible person for not downloading the pictures right away and for misplacing something important when I looked down and saw the briefcase. I KNEW it would not be in there because of course I trust Ry and knew he looked. But I stuck my hand in there anyway, and sure enough- here comes the camera case. I thought maybe it was empty justifying the search, but nope. The weight was enough that when I undid the zipper I was not surprised to see the silver camera show it's face.
I showed it to Ryan and asked, "What would you do without me?" He grinned sheepishly and said, "I don't know- do you want to get a life insurance policy taken out on you so I can replace you when you die?"

But, despite the fact that he drives me crazy, I couldn't live without Ry either and I would like to share a few reasons why:
  1. He is always happy
  2. He loves me--a lot.
  3. Even when I am super mean to him (almost everyday) he still loves me.
  4. He lets me watch what I want on tv even when the game is on.
  5. He is always saying something clever, or funny to make me laugh.
  6. He has so many funny nicknames for me. Like, "sweat pea" that he changes to match the situation. Yesterday, when I was listening to my I Pod, Ry came into the room and said, "How cute, you're listening to your Pea Pod." And then he said, " I was hoping that one would come up." How can you be in a bad mood after something like that?"
  7. He supports me and cheers me on in everything I do. He watched the series finale of Gilmore Girls with me, and when it was over, said "Now I feel like I have to watch the first episode ever to feel complete. Let's watch it!"
  8. He is passionate about life and is determined to make sure everyone else is.
  9. He doesn't do a lot around the house, but he takes out the trash. And he cleans out the turtle tank. These are very important things.
  10. He makes me fall in love with him all over everyday. He is a gift to me without which I would be insane. I love you Husband!

Book Club

I highly recommend "Peter and the Starcatchers" by Dave Barry and Ridley Peterson. It is a great young adult adventure book about the origins of Peter Pan. It's charming!

Getting to Know You...

Ryan: "If you could meet, and be friends with anyone in history, who would it be and why?"
Amy: "Oh, I don't know. I don't really like anyone in history."

Anniversary

This is a card we got for our 4th anniversary. The sad part is- this is exactly what we did. I was sick and Ryan was at an insurance conference all day. We put on a movie and both promptly fell asleep before 8pm. Pretty pathetic huh? Didn't think this would happen for another 50 years or so...but the good news is-we can only go up from here! For those who are truly worried about our marriage- we have plans to celebrate correctly next week :)

Tale as Old as Time

Belle (okay, Jill) descends the stairs and falls into the arms of her Prince Charming (or Oliver). They dance romantically all night at the senior prom and the night ends with a perfect first kiss. And the townsmen (us) cannot believe how fast the fair maiden (little sister) is growing up.

On Gratitude

I recommend all to re-read Bonnie D. Parkin's talk from this last conference. Gratitude: A Path to Happiness- Here are some of her great words:

"Gratitude requires awareness and effort, not only to feel it but to express it." It's easy to express thanks to all my dear friends!
"As we pray and express gratitude to a loving but unseen Heavenly Father, we are also expressing our faith in Him. Gratitude is our sweet acknowledgment of the Lord's hand in our lives; it is an expression of our faith."
"The kind of gratitude that receives even tribulations with thanksgiving requires a broken heart and a contrite spirit, humility to accept that which we cannot change, willingness to turn everything over to the Lord, even when we do not understand."
"Adversity compels us to go to our knees; does gratitude for adversity do that as well?"
I thought these were compelling words on a Monday morning...I guess I should be grateful for the fact that I have to go exercise now...bummer.

On Love and Toleration

Ryan: So do you think that I'll ever convince you of the truth?
Amy: The truth about what?
Ryan: That I love you so much I can't stand it, but that you just barely tolerate me?
Amy: No way. I love you.
Ryan: Don't worry- the prophet said that there should be a good amount of mutual toleration in marriage.
Amy: In that case...

So Clueless

Well, I have definitely gotten into the blogging spirit, but am so clueless as to how it all works, and am definitely not as creative as, well, let's face it-all of you. So if you're looking for entertainment, then I would read someone else's blog, or one of our Christmas letters again, but we love all of you and want to keep in touch. If this is the best way to do it, then so be it.
