We had some fun for Easter this year:
The last day before Spring Break, the kids had an Easter party at school. I was happy to be able to go and help.
They also got to play in a capture the flag game that day. It was very confusing, but they had fun :)
We missed the annual egg roll that my friend Melinda does every year, but a few of us got together and did it a little later:
Rachel actually opted for another dress, but this was the one I had planned. She matched well enough :)
The night before I told the kids I was going to read them an Easter story. So we read some scriptures and watched some Bible videos. Rachel said, "What did that have to do with Easter?" I swallowed the big ball of guilt rising in my throat and reminded her, "Because Easter is about Jesus and his resurrection, remember?"
"oh yeah," she said, (whew), "then, why do we get candy?" I thought that was a good question. I told her that Jesus likes to have fun and make kids happy. "So he wants the leprechaun to make everything green on St. Patrick's Day?" was her response....we'll have to refine our holiday talks a little better in the future :)
That being said, the Easter Bunny came in full force to our house. But mostly because he teams up with a pretty amazing neighbor. Erika down the street puts together a pretty amazing Easter party--breakfast complete with muffins, cereal, fruit, doughnuts, milk of all kinds, etc. We all help her hide eggs and then hunt around the neighborhood for the thousands of eggs she stuffs. But they're not just stuffed with candy--but with money, toys and she even hangs prizes from the trees. If you try to give her money she will refuse. It is one of the nicest things I've seen a neighbor do. (And I love that it saves this Easter Bunny time and money :)
And I let these babies have chocolate for breakfast--no throwing that on the floor :)
And then there was church. I think we have better pics on our real camera, but who knows when I'll get around to downloading those :)
And...dinner :)
Doesn't get any better :)
