Done with Christmas

  • I have more pictures to post about Christmas, but I am frustrated with technology right now, and don't want to do it. So let's move on to New Years and be done with it...

Last Year's Resolutions were:
1. Serve More (be available to people)
2. Be Creative (home decor, scrapbook, cooking, etc)
3. Study (scriptures, good books, new hobbies)
4. Acknowledge birthdays better
5. Maintain my stance against updating my Facebook status

Overall, I give myself an 8/10

2010 was good for me. We moved which was stressful and taxing, but it was also good to give me more of a sense of myself.  I have grown into feeling like an almost 30 something instead of a teenager (most of the time). I still don't feel like a real mom, but those little people remind me all the time!

It has been tough to come up with resolutions for 2011. The kids are at an age where I just can't do anything extra. They take almost everything I have. And with what's left of me I just want to chill--and not try to conquer the world. I admire all of you who do conquer the world--I read your blogs daily and awe at everything you can do. But that's just not me. I have to pause and take a break from achievement right now. It's the only way to keep my sanity.  As we were looking through past Christmas letters I remarked to Ryan, "We've done a lot in our life." He said "yeah, let's take a break from life for awhile." I wholeheartedly agree!

So my only resolution this year is to SUSTAIN and MAINTAIN.
Sustain life as a wife and a mother. Do the best I can to do well at every role: homemaker, church callings, friend, neighbor, personal fitness, etc. etc. But I'm not going to try to live up to more than what I've been called to do. You won't see masterful sonnets coming from me, prize winning pictures, a house worthy of a magazine, kids who know multiplication tables and eat organically. I feel like I am constantly trying to improve myself as a person, so who needs the extra pressure of resolutions, right?

But here are some things you will be seeing from us this year:
  • Ryan turning 30!
  • Celebrating with a cruise!
  • Potty Training--I'm assuming that will happen this year
  • Various trips to Utah--apologies in advance for not seeing everyone we want to
  • 24 hour Buffet Eating--don't ask
  • Working on my 30 by 30 list--suggestions are welcome
  • Keeping our garage, backyard and house clean at the same time? Yeah, right.
  • A lot more playdates--seriously--come over anytime.
I would like to write about what is going on with our everyday life and the cute things the kiddos are doing, but they are asking for help pushing a bunny rabbit on a swing, and fighting over a firetruck.

I'll post more pictures as soon as I take some.

Happy 2011!
